Abstract	The furious growth of smart city initiatives has resulted in various cybersecurity challenges that must be addressed. This literature review investigates recent research about cyber security in smart cities by discussing issues such as Internet of Things (IoT) vulnerabilities and proposing remedies like machine learning or risk-based analytics. These works also shed light on current trends, barriers, and emerging technologies related to this field. Moreover, these findings contribute towards building robust strategies for protecting urban infrastructures while enhancing their adaptability against increased digitization in cities worldwide and ensuring residents' well-being. The outcomes of this study propose some robust approaches for securing our cities; therefore, it recommends having more secure plans so as not only to safeguard but also to foster flexibility, among other things that may arise with growing numbers. Through this analysis, we can create better systems that are useful when dealing with different types at an advanced level, specifically for smart environments in towns or other urban areas. © 2024 IEEE.
