Abstract	Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected objects and technology that obviates the need for human involvement. It interacts with cutting-edge technologies on both an internal and external level. IoT is essential for enhancing living standards, since it is utilized in home appliances, smart energy, the environment, as well as other industries, resulting in more friendly, smarter cities and homes. The LCD screen on your refrigerator, for example, can inform you what is inside, when it will expire, and which items you should purchase in the future. In streetlights, illumination provides smart and weather-adaptive lighting. Fire control, emergency warning services, and digital video surveillance are all part of safety. Smart roads and highways are part of the transportation system for any unforeseen developments. IoT is widely used due to its numerous features, and in this chapter, the implementation of IoT in smart homes and smart cities has been discussed. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
