Abstract	Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a cutting-edge technology in the Information Technology (IT) field. It has become a novel technology that is revolutionizing industries, society, and everyday life by enhancing efficiency. It is an interconnected network of physical devices or sensors that collect and exchange data through the Internet. IoT-enabled devices, ranging from household appliances to industrial machinery, are embedded with sensors and software that enable them to communicate and make intelligent decisions. This chapter explores the transformative impact of IoT across various domains and presents all the technical details of IoT technology. It also presents the foundational principles of IoT, its historical evolution, key components, and its architecture. Additionally, this chapter highlights the benefits and challenges of IoT deployment in various sectors like smart healthcare, smart city, smart home, and many more. Some real-world use cases and applications across various industries are presented in this chapter to demonstrate the profound changes that IoT brings to these industries. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
