Abstract This research aims to evaluate the performance of the LoRaWAN protocol under jamming attacks in smart city IoT networks connected using LoRaWAN Technology. In this research, NS-3 network simulation software has been used as a simulation tool. The research started with designing a model of a smart city network. Following that, jamming attacks were conducted at the physical and mac layer of the designed model. The effect of the jamming attacks on the communication performance was later analysed. Performance metrics used in this research are packet loss rates and observing the effect of the packet that successfully passed through the gateway. The results show a significant effect on packet loss rate as the number of jammers increases. © 2022 IEEE.
