Abstract Through the encroachment of Technology in the Communication and Computing domain, seamless connectivity between devices is possible with proper infrastructure. The Internet of Things provides more efficiency in Real-time applications that work in constrained environments with dynamic characteristics. The LoRa communication technology created a revolution in the IoT industry by providing more seamless transmission at all places. The LoRa WAN technology acts as a bridge for filling the technology barrier created by cellular and Wi-Fi/BLE-based networks because of their characteristics like high bandwidth, high power consumption, inadequate range, and inability to pierce profound indoor environments. In contrast to the existing network techniques, LoRa Technology provides a flexible configuration with less implementation cost for rural or indoor use cases in smart cities, smart homes and buildings, smart agriculture, smart metering, and smart supply chain and logistics. Unlike the conventional system which does not support tracking of vehicles in areas where there is a lack of cellular network, the proposed system in this paper is planned to use LoRa WAN technology for tracking the vehicles in dead zones. It acts as an intermediate technology between the hardware setup and Android tracking application and provides better performance. It provides seamless vehicle tracking with limited configuration than traditional networking techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
