Abstract Artificial intelligence has emerged as a key technology for addressing the challenges of urban resilience against disasters. This paper explores how AI can be pivotal in strengthening the resilience of smart cities, enabling them to withstand and adapt to the increasingly frequent and intense natural disasters that threaten urban centers worldwide. The research has delved into the networks that make a smart city resilient to disasters and their interplay. The paper also highlights the complementarity between smart and resilient cities frameworks. The integration of AI within the framework of smart city represents a significant leap toward building disaster-resilient urban environments. It emphasizes the synergistic relationship between smart and resilient city frameworks, showcasing that the incorporation of AI is a crucial advancement toward creating disaster-resilient urban environments. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
