Abstract A web server and Internet of Things (IoT) based monitoring and cleaning system that uses a variety of indicators, such as gas, rainfall, temperature, and water level, to determine the state of manholes and guarantee their cleanliness by washing away solid wastes and clearing any obstructions using jet sprays. The resources utilized in this system being an underground water source for cleaning and an external power supply like the local electrical grid. The novelty of this project lies in the usage of automatic jet sprays for blockage cleaning whenever overflow is detected in manholes. In addition to preventing disease transmission and traffic accidents, this method facilitates effective and autonomous manhole handling without the assistance of sewage professionals. A smart city, which uses cutting-edge technologies to guarantee human wellbeing, must include smart manhole monitoring. Our project tracks and monitors data in real time using an Arduino board, a web server, and a variety of sensors to enable effective cleaning for a smart city. © 2024 IEEE.
