Abstract A concept of free energy generation through Pico-hydro-power plant from the treated sewage water is adopted and monitored through internet-of-things (IOT)-based sensors for the optimal controlling of street light as well as CCTV and traffic lights during day time. For continuous power delivery, two ways of power monitoring scheme is adopted through IOT devices and cloud-based platform, where direct power supply is desired as primary and battery energy storage (BES) as secondary option of energy management. Charging of BES is facilitated during excess water availability or less connected load. This chapter utilizes waste-to-energy (WtE) conversion scheme for a smart city through proper water quality monitoring, hence reduced risk of contaminated water and environmental pollution. Hence the proposed scheme is a way out for dispersed energy production of free energy for smart city applications. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
