Counterfeit items and materials are a global issue that is becoming more severe as e-commerce grows. Counterfeits seriously affect supply chains, including reduced revenues, damaged business reputations, increased consumer costs, and health risks. Numerous anti-counterfeit solutions have been proposed and implemented by practitioners and academics, both technical and management. Recent research has revealed that blockchain technology is an effective countermeasure. Blockchain technology has been used in various sectors, including smart cities, agriculture, logistics, and supply chains. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of blockchain technology in combatting supply chain counterfeiting. This study conducted qualitative research by gathering previous papers, reports, and news. This study underlined the challenges to deploying blockchain technology, including technological, supply chain, and environmental concerns that businesses must address. Some solutions have been proposed to encourage the adoption of blockchain technology, such as government policies, guidelines, and customer awareness. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025. |
