Abstract Pervasive computing, ubiquitous computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are terms used to describe the seamless communication and data sharing between common objects and computing systems. The coming together of ubiquitous computing and cutting-edge networking technology has the potential to fundamentally alter how we interact with our surroundings as well as how networks are created and run as we approach the next generation of heterogeneous networks. This chapter tries to investigate how heterogeneous next-generation networks are affected by ubiquitous computing. We will talk about the essential elements of ubiquitous computing, its difficulties, as well as the features and possible advantages of heterogeneous networks. We will also look at the synergies that result from combining these two paradigms and how they might work together to improve user experience and overall network performance. There are various difficulties for network infrastructure brought on by the growth of linked objects and sensors in ubiquitous computing. Scalability, security, energy efficiency, and seamless mobility are some of these difficulties. Next-generation networks are anticipated to overcome these issues and sustain the enormous influx of devices and data produced by ubiquitous computing. These networks are defined by varied technologies including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and beyond. Numerous industries, including healthcare, smart cities, transportation, and industrial automation, are presented with new prospects as a result of the convergence of ubiquitous computing and heterogeneous networks. The plethora of data streams from connected devices makes real-time data analytics and AI-driven decision-making more practical. Innovative services and programmess can also be created to raise productivity, security, and standard of living. In this chapter, we will examine potential solutions to these problems and suggest methods for successfully utilising the interactions between ubiquitous computing and heterogeneous networks. We’ll talk about how standardisation, flexible protocols, and cross-platform compatibility are crucial for ensuring seamless interoperability across devices and networks. In conclusion, the effects of ubiquitous computing on heterogeneous next-generation networks are expected to change the digital environment and create previously unimaginable opportunities. Stakeholders must work together to create strong and secure network infrastructures that can support the growing needs of the IoT age in order to fully realise the potential benefits. Through this connection, we may open the door to a world that is more intelligent and connected, encouraging innovation and advancement across numerous industries. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, A.
