Abstract Locating vacant parking slots has always been a major issue in metropolitan cities. There have been various methods for creating an efficient parking management system to be used in smart cities thus helping reduce traffic congestion on roads. These techniques are distinctly categorized into two - hardware-based which involve use of sensors and image-based techniques that use computer vision algorithms and deep learning techniques to detect the empty slots. This paper aims to study the various approaches in each of the techniques and highlight their limitations. © 2020 IEEE.
