Abstract Digital technologies are constantly changing not only the way how business processes are performed at the organizational level but also the way how we live. Digital transformation is affecting many areas. Cities and living in cities is not an exception. Smart cities are developing at an ever-increasing rate. New concepts and technologies such as cloud computing, mobile technology, 5G networks and integration with social media are bringing information solutions closer to end-users and are providing greater flexibility for business solutions as well. The technological aspects of smart cities are already extensively researched; however, the development of smart cities is also presenting significant challenges related to citizens, quality of life, personal preferences, privacy and others. This paper thus focuses on the interplay of different factors that are important for smart city adoption. The impact of this interplay is empirically tested with structural equation modelling using data from 203 millennials.
