Abstract Global urbanization and environmental concerns pose difficulties for cities. The notion of a smart city arose as a way to cope with cities as they became increasingly complex owing to interconnected structures and more dependence on communication and information technology to meet peoples needs. In this study, we explore smart city as a viable kind of metropolis that might solve contemporary civilizations needs and environmental sustainability challenges. Smart cities have advanced physical, human, and telecommunications resources. These cities enjoy better lifestyles and sustainable economic development via democratic administration and natural resource management. Through in-depth interviews with smart city personnel and sustainability professionals, the concepts strengths and downsides are identified and arranged according to FSSD. Then, a process called Strategic Sustainable Development (SSD) is employed to maximize the ideas value and minimize any restrictions. This dissertation gives a planning roadmap led by an SSD methodology to help smart city initiatives move strategically toward their smart city idea while pushing society toward sustain ability. © 2022 IEEE.
