Abstract In the era of sustainable smart cities, there is a rapid transition from gasoline to electric, sustainable, and low-carbon vehicles. This transition to electric mobility has a lot of applications and also brings a number of challenges that must be addressed. One such challenge is the paramount increase of electricity usage on the legacy infrastructure of electric grids. The nation is barely meeting its current needs for electricity, and permitting eclectic vehicles and smart city applications would be a challenge. Therefore, we need to increase energy production and invest in renewable energy resources more than ever in order to meet the current challenges and future needs. In this paper, we introduced a multi-layered framework for energy production and harvesting based on renewable energy sources and renowned novel techniques. The framework is based on four layers, (1) renewable energy production, (2) smart city infrastructure harvesting, (3) vehicle-integrated generative resources, and (4) onboard energy generation. The demonstrated framework is resilient and incorporates energy generated from various ways with the electric grid. The careful implementation of the underlined framework can significantly reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate the environmental impact of electric mobility, providing a smooth transition towards future smart cities. © 2023 IEEE.
