Abstract Smart antennas, which are also recognized as multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antennas, are the arrays of an antenna having smart signal processing algorithms for identifying spatial signal signs such as the direction of arrival of signal, which are used for calculating beam forming vectors which track and find beam of antenna on mobile or target. Internet of Things (IoT) applications are likely to provide many routine items using intelligence and connectivity such as wearable, healthcare, smart home equipment, agriculture, smart cities, and industrial applications. Smart antennas can completely enhance the performance of IoT network and for this, they do not require any changes in wireless IoT devices population. Only IoT gateway terminals, which are comparatively limited in population, require improvement. However, eventually everyone gains advantages such as the capacity of data, location services and network resilience, network operators from enhanced coverage, and network users from cheap and low-power required IoT devices. Because of the progression in different IoT-based devices, a few MIMO antennas are presented. In this part, different sorts of MIMO antennas are introduced dependent on the working frequency bands, for example, ultra-wideband (UWB), single-band and multiband. The UWB MIMO antennas are utilized in flexible IoT wireless devices, lower 5G bands and different wireless and IoT devices. The single-band MIMO antenna discovers applications in 4G, 5G, and IoT devices. Multiband MIMO antenna is helpful in various wireless communication having frequency bands alluring for the IoT gadgets, 4G/5G for cell phones. The examination hole of UWB MIMO antenna for IoT applications is huge size, high mutual coupling at higher frequencies, and absence of shared ground of antenna elements. Likewise the vast majority of the antenna have a 2 × 2 arrangement. The fundamental examination hole of single and multiband MIMO antenna for IoT applications are nonplanar construction of antenna, poor impedance matching, and low isolation. © 2024 Apple Academic Press, Inc.
