Abstract	Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are gaining significance these days. Detailed information and techniques of UAVs in smart and modern cities are brought out. In daily life, all the opportunities and challenges that will be faced by humans will also be discussed further. There is a broad category of techniques in several areas like monitoring the environment and weather conditions, solving traffic issues, and development of smart and modern cities. UAVs are becoming one of the most interesting areas for research. Information is gathered from surveillance cameras and sensors that are the part of smart cities using a mobile network. Energy and cost will be reduced to some extent. This work also gives an internet of things platform that will provide information and execution of various smart cities such as smart UAVs, essential energy applications, and future smart devices that will grow and work with demands of customers. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
