Abstract The integration of digital twin and blockchain technologies in sensor networks signals a transformative era for smart cities, enhancing efficiency, security, and sustainability. This study explores the synergistic application of these technologies with smart grid frameworks, with the primary goal of optimizing energy distribution and consumption while upholding the integrity and security of data transactions. Digital twins, as dynamic virtual replicas of physical entities, enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, while blockchain technology secures data transactions, ensuring transparency and trustworthiness. Through the examination of various applications, challenges, and future directions, this research underscores the potential of combining digital twins and blockchain to revolutionize urban environments. The analysis extends to technical challenges, privacy concerns, and scalability issues, proposing innovative solutions and highlighting the importance of interoperability, edge computing, and advanced encryption techniques.
