Abstract	Smart cities are defined as municipalities that use ICT to consider the requirements of its urban community. Indeed, the emergent technologies enable to improve the quality of life of citizens, the quality of public services, and to increase information-sharing with the public. Within ICT, recommender systems are among the most popular and powerful tools for filtering information, improving relationships between government and civil society stakeholders, and supporting decision-making through technology platforms. In this paper, we will highlight the presence and importance of using recommender systems in smart cities. Our survey highlights current trends and challenges to enhance decision-making for customers, businesses, and government agencies by using personalized recommendations. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
