The Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) transfers data or develops connectivity in isolated places or in crisis situations where no network exists. The DTN has some important features like tolerating high latency, asymmetric data rates, long queuing delays, intermittent connectivity etc. In this paper, various research challenges in DTN are reviewed, such as Priority based buffer management system, multi-node adaption system, Secure and Anonymous communication, networking in DTN etc. Here, the recent routing protocols used in DTN are also reviewed and their performance parameters are compared with other traditional routing protocols. Also, various application fields of DTN are mentioned such as, in space, aircraft, road, railways and underwater networks. DTN is also used in industrial fields, Block chain, IoT, agriculture, healthcare monitoring, and smart city, post disaster situation, wildlife DTN etc. © 2022 IEEE. |
