Abstract Information security is the premise of the normal operation of smart cities. It plays a vital role in the construction of smart cities in China and must be guaranteed as the core content. Based on the grounded theory, this study collates and analyzes the retrieved literature, extracts the influencing factors of information security risk through three stages of open coding, spindle coding and selective coding, and constantly excavates the core concepts to construct the framework model of information security risk factors in smart city. Based on the three-stage coding analysis, four risk factors affecting the information security of smart cities are summarized, and the relationship between the four factors is clarified in order to improve the ability to cope with the information security risks of smart cities and ensure the smooth operation of the smart city system. © 2024 The Authors.
