Abstract There has been an increase in traffic jams and accidents. Here the authors plan to incorporate vehicular adhoc network (VANET), smart cities, and big data. The vehicles are treated as nodes in a network. This improves the quality of city life with safe and secure drivability. The chapter improves the VANET safety and efficiency. They compare different optimization methods such as ant colony optimization (ACO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA). Also they do a simulation study of the maximum number of nodes that a cluster can serve and the actual number of cars acquired in the cluster differential and number of packets that are transported to the destinations during the course of a simulation required to reduce number of groups with VNS. The significant improvements in terms of optimal route and reducing the number of clusters with improved results are explored. © 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved.
