Abstract Blockchain has much more to it than just cryptocurrencies because of its flexible nature. It is one of the most imaginative advances and troublesome too, which is the central perpetual, decentralized, ledger of records. Undoubtedly, it is a revolution in systems of record. As blockchain innovation re-architects our digital framework, it additionally reformulates the security condition and also promises to revolutionize the management of smart cities. They can have a large number of users everywhere throughout the world as they are distributed networks. Cryptography is used to secure the whole data residing in the blockchain where each client can add information. It can be done by utilizing an arrangement of three keys (public, private, and the receiver's key) that permit individuals to check the integrity of the information. Blockchain network does not have a central authority. This innovation has already rooted into the finance and banking areas by its uncommon straightforwardness, adaptability, and security that encourage the management of exchanges in a decentralized way. Features like distributed and peer-authentication empower it to span across auxiliary areas like smart grids, government public services, reputation systems, smart cities with IoT, and security services. However, it can change different enterprises, including logistics, healthcare, supply chain, insurance, and considerably more. Well-known enterprises like Samsung and IBM are likewise embracing blockchain innovation to attempt imaginative solutions and approaches to enterprises and new businesses. Nowadays, the fastest-growing skill on the platform is blockchain, who is leaving behind the skills like TensorFlow and Machine Learning as well as led to an increase in demand for developers of blockchain. Solidity, Geth, Mist, Remix, and Metamask are the different blockchain advancement tools. Various blockchain technologies are public blockchain, consortium or federated blockchains, and private blockchains. Ethereum, BigchainDB, HydraChain, and Corda are some of the examples of blockchain platforms. Whereas, Ethereum is considered as one of the best open-source blockchain platforms, which helps in running smart contract and gives distinctive tools for programming to make them. The blockchain applications are the recent pattern in the computerized world. It has the capability to change customary organizations. But to ride the rush of their fame, knowledge regarding the usage of tools and technology is must to create a perfect product. This chapter highlights the major characteristics, architecture, and taxonomy of blockchain technology. Furthermore, it also provides an insight into the various consensus algorithms and main application areas in the blockchain technology. © 2022 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
