Abstract Government sectors have been using civic hackathons to promote civic participation in open data and develop innovative apps to address city issues. In a similar approach, some cities have been using IoT hackathons to prototype Smart City solutions. In this poster paper, we present the hackathon initiative from the city of Recife. The hackathon consisted of the development of innovative apps, mobile, web, or IoT systems. Projects had to meet a thematic axis (e.g., urbanism and mobility, city infrastructure, historic downtown, environment) and after the hackathon they could be deployed in a sandbox environment in town. © 2023 IEEE.
