Abstract Software Defined Networking (SDN) features in centralized control, which can provide transparent and fast recovery from failures. Most of the existing recovery solutions for SDN concentrate on rerouting the disrupted flows, which results in long recovery time due to excessive protocol overhead between the controller and switches. In this paper, we propose a recovery algorithm for link failures in SDN data plane, by introducing the gray comprehensive evaluation concept. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the recovery time by 20.3% and response time by 22.3%. © 2019 IEEE.
