Abstract This paper proposes a novel approach to sewage monitoring and alert systems by leveraging the capabilities of LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology, specifically utilizing gas and water level sensors. These sensors can be deployed throughout the sewage infrastructure to collect real-time data on gas levels (such as methane or hydrogen sulfide) and water levels within the sewage network. The collected data is then transmitted wirelessly to a central monitoring station via the LoRaWAN network. The introduction of LoRaWAN into sewage monitoring systems brings several advantages. Firstly, LoRaWAN's long-range capability ensures comprehensive coverage of the sewage network without the need for costly infrastructure installations. This is particularly beneficial in large-scale or geographically dispersed sewage systems. Secondly, LoRaWAN operates on unlicensed frequency bands, minimizing operational costs and reducing dependency on cellular network providers. In conclusion, the integration of gas and water level sensors with LoRaWAN technology offers a transformative solution to enhance sewage monitoring and alert systems. By providing cost-effective, long-range connectivity, real-time monitoring capabilities, and efficient data collection, this approach empowers authorities to proactively manage sewage infrastructure and mitigate potential risks. This project explores the implementation details, challenges, and benefits of utilizing gas and water level sensors with LoRaWAN in sewage monitoring, contributing to the advancement of smart city initiatives and sustainable urban development. © 2024 IEEE.
