Abstract The smart city infrastructure faces new challenges in improving the reliability and sustainability of amenities for residents. They also include extra features that enable the urban sector to adapt and configure itself based on acquired knowledge, which may not be considered advertisements. The Internet of Things (IoT) serves to links multiple things, enabling them to communicate with each other and reduce the energy required for manual labor. This technology allows machines to perform muscle work with greater precision than humans. However, a significant challenge that the world currently confronts is sustainability, which can have catastrophic consequences. It is essential to ascertain that sustainability involves more than the mere prudent use of natural resources; it includes a broader range of social, economic, and environmental considerations. In the pursuit of urban development and improved living circumstances, there is a tendency to overlook the significance of human beings and the potential depletion of resources. This paper's purpose is to provide surveys and Studies of smart city initiatives, with a focus on their sustainability along with the need to achieve a balance between the environment, human well-being, and financial gains. Furthermore, proposing novel technical applications that are not only attractive to us but also effectively address tangible challenges in developing nations such as India. © 2024 IEEE.
