Abstract The ecosystem is contaminated, and human health is impacted by improper solid waste disposal. However, the majority of trash cans put in municipalities may be seen to be overflowing due to antiquated procedures. A real-time wireless closely monitoring device is therefore required to report to the proper authorities of the quantity of waste in containers in order for it to be removed immediately. So this brand-new idea of providing each and every citizen with an RFID card, a computing technology, as well as the concept of rewarding them with points via SMS for proper disposal, is put into action. This study provides an improvement and validation of an IoT self-powered, easily connectable alternative to track the number of empty whip-smart trash bins using a valuable surveillance center. Each trash can that needs to have the unfilled stage monitored can have trash bin monitoring units (BMU). Each BMU measures each garbage can’s level of emptiness and transmits that data to a unit—Wi-Fi access point (WAP). The primary IoT-equipped device is installed in each region to help connect many devices to a bin network. The LoRa devices communicate with each local machine to the controller IoT device, allowing extended communication. As a result, this tactic improves the usefulness of an IoT-based waste disposal management and collection smart city system communities. It simplifies the process of monitoring the trash bin in real-time. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
