Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is regarded as one of the latest technologies which has exciting potential for application in several vertical businesses. Smart building is one of the most important IoT technology sectors. Every day, the IoT is used in a variety of industries. It is implemented in smart buildings, smart cities, smart homes, smart grids, e-health, quality management and transportation applications. IoT-based smart buildings is a better solution as it is both efficient and affordable. Major considerations for commercial space include comfort, accessibility, security and energy management. IoT-based technologies naturally meet these needs. This chapter has offered an overview of IoT technology, architecture, and smart building monitoring. The objective of this chapter is to provide an outline for future studies that will make use of the spatial data gathered from various IoT devices, including temperature sensors and security cameras, which might already be in use in the building. © 2024 selection and editorial matter Krishan Arora, Vikram Kumar, Deepak Prashar and Suman Lata Tripathi; individual chapters, the contributors.
