Abstract Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and sensing technology are extremely interconnected internet technologies that work together in complex IoT installations. The IoT ecosystem has networks, sensors, and processing technologies built into smart objects. To build a setting that offers intelligent services to end users, it combines and cooperates. A smart city can be defined as a high-tech advanced metropolitan region where a variety of electrical devices and sensors are interconnected, and specific data are gathered together. The gathered data collected from these devices and sensors are used effectively to control profits, equipment, facilities, etc., to improve the productivity of the overall city. Moreover, time wastage can be reduced in our daily lives through the creation of smart cities. Making the cities of the 21st century sustainable and prosperous will depend greatly on the smart city. The use of IoT and cloud computing reaches from medical and safety applications to building automation and IoT technology, and smart transportation networks to the infrastructure of industry and farms. This chapter focuses on the applications and importance of IoT, cloud computing, and sensing technology for smart cities. It also sheds light on the challenges of combining IoT, cloud computing, and sensing technology for smart cities. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Mohammad Sajid, Anil Kumar Sagar, Jagendra Singh, Osamah Ibrahim Khalaf and Mukesh Prasad; individual chapters, the contributors.
