Abstract The 5th generation mobile system (5G) for the broadband cellular network promises to deliver ultra-fast services with high performance that provides high virtual connectivity to everyone and everything, including machines, objects, and devices. This mobile standard is committed to setting new standards in the wireless world for sectors of the economy such as engineering, agriculture, development of smart cities, healthcare, public transport, manufacturing, energy, media, and entertainment. Real-time applications are being developed to new levels of efficient operation, with super-fast data transmission and very low latency, as features of the 5G network, never having been experienced before, which will ensure dramatic lifestyle changes. The concept of the smart city is supported by 5G network connectivity; as such 5G plays a pivotal role in the information collected by sensors that is transmitted in real-time to the central monitoring system. 5G technology is much better than already established 4G technology in terms of download and uplink speeds, accuracy, latency, capacity, and highly flexible bandwidth. These transformative new features keep 5G technology at the upper edge and justify the three main application areas for the enhanced capabilities - eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband), URLLC (ultra-reliable low latency communication), and mMTC (massive machine-type communication). In terms of network architecture, the 5G network is divided into three primary components, namely the user device (UE), 5G access network, and 5G core network. The 5G core defines a service-based architecture (SBA) to support authentication, security, session management, and traffic aggregation from 5th-generation technology-connected devices. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Ambar Bajpai and Arun Balodi; individual chapters, the contributors.
