Abstract Urban planning processes are increasingly characterized by a progressive rise in complexity and interdisciplinary cooperation. They are also promoted by the public interest in participation in planning and the population's growing awareness of the need for climate protection and adaptation. The integration of renewable energies and inclusion of new digital tools for smart cities go hand in hand with it. This contribution displays the development of an innovative cloud-based platform for interdisciplinary urban planning. The concept 'Urban Planner' focuses on a virtual twin of a real urban system that integrates relevant planning aspects from various disciplines (energetic, economic, spatial development) and, thus, leads to a new type of digital tool for a holistic and sustainable planning view in European cities and municipalities. © 2023 IEEE.
