Abstract Cyberneticians and designers developed the idea of artificial environment as a device, identifying the function of the city's urban fabric as spatial morphology. As a consequence, we are progressing towards a new kind of city that uses computation and data analysis, converted into the form of the city structures that serve as both a device and a medium through collaborative computation processes.Interactive built environments are imagined as intelligent and highly responsive systems with their own evolved recognition of the context, behaving accordingly, and connecting technical, aesthetic, and social functions. They receive and process data using various sensors and translate the data through integrated multiprocessors. Interactive public environment has the potential to improve and manage urban life while being able to translate the outcomes of data analysis into the real world. This intricate cybernetic urban system is designed to respond to information on societal and urban activities. The idea of an interactive space, which derives from cybernetic philosophies and is fueled by advances in technology, aims to crystallize development and optimize response to social demands while promoting the function of the medium and participating in social interaction at both the individual and urban scales. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
