Abstract The use of water resources has played an important role in human society since ancient times. With the overall situation of global overpopulation and dwindling freshwater resources, traditional irrigation systems simply cannot provide the efficiency in tackling such problems. This article explores the approach to utilize embedded system technology, through the smart irrigation system to improve the efficiency of urban green space irrigation and household irrigation. Arduino Nano will control the water usage based on the data streaming from Soil Moisture Sensors. It has been noticed that the proposed system has low energy consumption, low cost and can conserve water. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
