Abstract	The chapter will discuss the different dimensions of smart city and their characteristics. It is assumed that the indicator of a smart city is the possession, by the city, of a well-developed one of the six basic elements that define the city. These basic elements are economy (smart economy), mobility (smart mobility), environment (smart environment), people (smart people), quality of life (smart living) and management (smart governance). This chapter aims to analyse the ranking of smart cities and the assessment of cities according to the characteristics of these six specific areas of the city’s functioning as well as the use of modern digital technologies to solve the problems that modern cities face. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Judyta Kabus, Luiza Piersiala, and Michal Dziadkiewicz; individual chapters, the contributors.
