Abstract The increased adoption of smart digital technologies in urban places has important implications for the inclusivity of public space. Smart city enterprises employ numerous technologies to capture and analyse data to refine the management, planning, and oversight strategies of public agencies. For users and managers of public spaces, smart city enterprises promise efficiency, security and high-quality experience. However, there are also risks to diverse and inclusive public space from increased privatization, securitization, and standardization. The implications of smart city initiatives for inclusive public space are explored in this chapter, which focuses on two case studies of the creation of smart public space in Western Australia: East Perth Smart Precinct and Wharf Street Next Generation Community Park. A multi-lens framework of inclusive public space frames the analysis. User-experience, governance, public values, and diversity emerge as key domains where inclusivity of public space is enhanced or challenged by smart city enterprises. © The Editors and Contributors Severally 2025.
