Abstract Cities are the center of people's social activities, so the social aspects of the city are very important. On the other hand, achieving sustainable development and creating a smart city to solve the problems of cities and increase the quality of urban life is a priority for governments and city managers. This research seeks an optimal and developed model for creating a sustainable social smart city (SSSC). In this research, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling methods (SEM) have been used to investigate the relationships and correlations between model components and to analyze the impact of model variables on each other. The results of the research showed that the variables of smart people, smart environment, smart government, smart living, smart mobility, and smart economy have the greatest impact on sustainable development respectively, and help urban communities to achieve SSSC. Also, the results of model fit showed that the model of this research has gained an acceptable level in all criteria of model fit, so the model of this research has a good fit. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
