For urban road networks with hazardous materials (hazmat) transportation, a Multi-Objective Sustainable trAffic Control (MOSAC) is proposed in this chapter. A multi-objective stochastic program is proposed to simultaneously minimize total travel delay and reduce maximum risk exposure to all road users. Following Wardrop’s principle, travelers’ route choice is considered. In order to effectively solve the proposed stochastic program, a novel heuristic is proposed. Numerical experiments using a realistic road network are performed to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed approach. For varying traffic conditions, computational comparisons are also made with recently proposed one, indicating that system performance can be greatly improved by MOSAC in all cases. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG. |
