Abstract Nowadays, many democracies are facing, as a growing problem, a breach of communication between citizens and political representatives, resulting in a low citizen participation in political decision-making and during public consultations, leading to a low engagement. Therefore, it is fundamental to generate a constructive relationship between the public administration and the citizens by solving their needs. This document contains a useful literature review of the gamification topic and e-government services, providing a conceptual background and presents a selection and analysis of the different gamification applications found. Three lines of research gaps were identified, with a potential impact on future studies. © 2020 Immersive Learning Research Network.
