Abstract More and more people are using smartphones and laptops, which need a lot more high-speed data to be sent over mobile networks. This has led researchers and designers to find ways to improve your overview of what 5G technology is! in which principle it works, what was the main concept in driving its evolution, the good impacts of 5G on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and in the concept of virtual reality. Also, some bad impacts on health concerns, privacy, and security risks. But before getting started we must note that the word “5G” is not yet officially mentioned in any of the organizations yet, as currently, 5G is in the testing phase in most of the counties, with researchers facing the challenge of security issues. Once all the issues with 5G networks are successfully resolved, they can serve as the cornerstone of the Smart City concept, offering solutions to various ongoing problems related to infrastructure, public transport, the environment, and more. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
