Abstract Edge computing is a distributed computing paradigm that enables data processing and analysis to be performed closer to the source of the data rather than in centralized data centers. By bringing computing resources and intelligence closer to the edge of the network, edge computing can provide lower latency, higher bandwidth, and improved privacy and security. Due to the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the demand for real-time analytics and decision-making in several industries, including healthcare, smart cities, and industrial automation, this technology has recently attracted a lot of attention. However, there are also significant obstacles to adopting edge computing, including resource limitations, heterogeneity, scalability, and fault tolerance. As a result, this chapter focuses on resolving these issues and realizing edge computing’s full potential. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
