Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) has been emerging as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize the accessibility and support for people with disabilities. This research explores into depth, the development and implementation of an IoT-based support system personalized according to the needs of the differently-abled. The paper also puts forth innovative solutions by building upon existing literature and acknowledging the challenges of standardization, accessibility, and privacy concerns. These solutions include universal design principles that integrate the ease of use, and a strong focus on data privacy and security. This research also highlights the importance of fostering collaboration among different stakeholders to establish a more inclusive and an accessible IoT ecosystem. Focusing on inclusion and accessibility, the vision for the future is that IoT will add value to various aspects of life, including healthcare, transportation, and the development of smart cities. This research provides valuable insights and recommendations for those involved in developing and implementing of IoT solutions for individuals having disabilities, and highlights the importance of prioritizing accessibility so that a fair and equitable future can be affirmed. © 2024 IEEE.
