Abstract Big data has substantially grown with the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), opening possibilities for cutting-edge applications and services. The datasets coming out of IoT devices that can't be stored or processed by using traditional tools and technologies because of their volume, velocity, and variety are referred to as Big Data. Big data analytics help us handle and analyze complex and diverse data to uncover hidden patterns, meanings, and insights that aid decision-making. IoT system optimization, better decision-making, and commercial value creation may all be achieved by taking advantage of big data analytics. Big tech companies and organizations are using this useful information to gain deeper and richer insights into their business models. This helps them to get an advantage over the competition nowadays. The data scientists and engineers believe that big data implementation needs to be analyzed and executed as accurately as possible. It is possible only because of leading modern technologies which are used for the storage and processing of large datasets. Hadoop, Map Reduce, and No SQL are some of the major tools utilized in the big data management process. This literature review provides some insight into the many big data emerging tools and technologies that may be used to give solutions for dealing with that data. We also discuss the various applications of big data for IoT, such as predictive maintenance, supply chain management, energy management, healthcare, and smart cities. © 2023 IEEE.
