Abstract In order to support and maintain a better life and improve the overall quality of life for its citizens, smart cities are evolving with new smart technologies. The deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technology must be applied to the Internet of Things (IoT), which plays a major role in the contribution of smart cities. The IoT is a ubiquitous network of objects. Each object is connected, has a unique network connection address, and can be automatically accessed anytime, anywhere. The IoT provides an ideal platform for the collection of large amounts of data, and also for the live-streaming of information. In addition, artificial intelligence provides mechanisms for analysing the data and making intelligent decisions. This approach is used in almost all aspects of smart cities, such as communication, transportation, health care, education, governance, etc., and the smart development of the future. © 2023 IEEE.
