Abstract Turkey is a country of strategic importance, with the presence of coastal regions. Being active in commercial activities, businesses, and tourism activities in coastal areas provides many advantages, especially economically. However, in recent times, due to various reasons including climate change, the impact of disasters has increased, resulting in coastal regions facing numerous problems. The resilience of coastal cities has gradually decreased due to reasons such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, and i ncreased floods. Today, technological developments come to the fore to increase resilience. Some of these developments are to reduce possible damages by using early warning systems, to create risk analyses and risk maps by using remote sensing and geographical information systems, to accelerate the warning process by strengthening the communication infrastructure, and to make meteorological warnings with weather forecast systems. Cities that create resilience through the effective use of information and communication technologies are called smart cities. Various smart city projects are being carried out in this direction in Turkey. By the scope of the study, whether the smart city projects carried out in coastal cities create resilience to disasters and emergencies was revealed as a result of examining the projects carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change with the content analysis method. As a result, it has been concluded that Turkey produces projects that address the dangers in coastal areas rather than producing projects that address coastal hazards. Practices such as developing early warning systems for disasters such as floods, landslides, and extreme weather events and creating a GIS infrastructure are among the most commonly taken measures in our country. Although these measures are also used to prevent coastal hazards, technologies such as sensor networks, remote sensing, and data analytics that specifically serve this purpose should be disseminated, and smart urban planning solutions should be developed on the coasts. © 2024, Ankara University.
