Abstract The goal of this work has been to investigate the performance of link adaptation in the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IOT) standard, which has been released by 3GPP in Release 13 and is used in mobile communications. In comparison to previous cellular technologies, NB-IOT has greater coverage, data rate, latency, and battery life. These characteristics of NB-IOT make it particularly useful in IOT industrialization, allowing the technology to be used in a wide range of applications, including agriculture, smart cities, health, and WSNs. The primary goal of this research is to assess the effectiveness of various NB-IOT features in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The several models have been compared by using software simulations to see which options provided the best latency, capacity, throughput, and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). The results demonstrate that employing the NB-IOT protocol results in three to four times better path loss than a well-known macro cell model and four to five times better path loss than a well-known microcell model. The results also reveal that as NB-IOT is employed, the SNR and the capacity increase. The suggested methodology evaluates several criteria and improves NB-IOT network planning. © 2023 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.-All rights reserved.
