Abstract This study examines the security and resiliency of renewable energy systems (RESSs) in settings related to smart cities. Ensuring these systems' dependable operation and maintenance becomes increasingly important as using renewable energy sources grows in urban areas. This study provides helpful suggestions for strengthening the safety and security of RESSs by thoroughly reviewing the dangers and related difficulties. Smart cities can create a strong and sustainable energy infrastructure by implementing efficient mitigation techniques. To build a more secure and resilient smart city energy landscape, legislators, urban planners, and energy system administrators can benefit from the findings of this research, which offer new insights into safety and security challenges for RESSs.
