Abstract Traffic management system plays a vital role in the present smart city applications. In developing countries, heterogeneous lane-less traffic management is a significant challenge. This paper proposes a dual-purpose laser-based sensor configuration for vehicle classification. It classifies heterogeneous and less-lane disciplined traffic based on vehicles width. This work also suggests a methodology for the vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication using visible light. © 2019 IEEE.
