Abstract The authors intended to present in a condensed form the vision of transport in cities of the intelligent type using electricity. The history of electric car development in the sense of ecology and evolution of the automotive industry was presented, as well as the evolution of the car in terms of new utility functions obtained as a result of using, among others, electronics, vehicle communication with the global network (environment), augmented reality. As a result, the concept of an autonomous vehicle was included in the concept of an intelligent city, where an intelligent electrical network is an important source of energy.
