Abstract Digital twin (DT) is created as a virtual and computerized element of a physical system that may be applied by means of a real-time synchronizing between sensed data from a field to simulate sensed data in various ways. These digital twins can be used efficiently for managing challenges in smart grids. The current work reviews the usage of digital twins in different domains using smart grids like smart cities, healthcare, supply chain management and manufacturing industries. The state-of-the-art work being done in digital twins is reviewed, covering all the major domains. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Pethuru Raj, B. Sundaravadivazhagan, A.
