Abstract The Energy trading is the buying, selling and moving of bulk electricity energy from the production point to any where it is needed. Peer-to-peer energy (P2P) trading refers to the trading of energy between two or more grid-connected parties. In this paper, we present a peer to peer energy trading algorithm for energy trading in a smart community consists of several customers. There are two types of customers in the system: Consumer and Prosumers. Consumers are those without solar panels are still able to access renewable energy at a reasonable price from their neighbours. Prosumer are those that sell their excess energy can do so at a price that is more than they’d receive as a feed-in tariff from their retailer. We then present a MQTT based smart energy trading algorithm for trading energy between prosumers as energy sellers and consumers as energy buyers. The evaluation results confirm the proposed smart energy trading algorithm is beneficial for both consumers and prosumers. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.
